Bactiguard’s coating may be applied on hemodialysis catheters

The annual World Kidney Day is arranged on March 10, to increase awareness about the chronic kidney disease, which is a worldwide disease affecting millions of patients. In connection to this, the newspaper The Parliament Magazine has published several articles about kidney diseases, including a presentation the DIREKT project, also involving Bactiguard analyzing the possibilities to apply the company’s infection preventive coating on hemodialysis catheters.

The DIREKT project is an EU-funded project, headed by Professor Bo Nilsson at Uppsala University, Uppsala in Sweden and divided into 12 work packages focusing on among others on innovative biopharmaceuticals and advanced coating techniques. Bactiguard is part of the project, analyzing the possibilities to apply the company’s coating on the surface of hemodialysis catheters. The aim is to offer a catheter that reduces the incidence of device related healthcare associated infections, which is critical for the patient safety and quality of life for those patients.
